week 8- grammar lesson- The Food- teachers: Daniel , Xenia , Astrid

hello, once more classmates this time I come to share our experience developing a grammar class, This was our first time developing a grammar class and to be honest it was not easy to teach grammar so my respects for those who already developed this class and good luck for those who are the next.

the first to perform the first activities of the class was Daniel, he was in charge of developing the warm-up he did a good job doing this activity the children really enjoyed this part of the class , then he explains the grammar of that day that was to use the ¨is it¨ and the ¨ are they¨, he explained very well although he used very advanced words, in the end, the children understood and did a very good job paying attention.

then it was Xenia's turn, she was in charge of the practice stages she did a very good job making the children do the activities. in the first one, he put the children to connect the images with the correct word, in the second part he had to fill in the spaces in whites and in the third they had to create sentences according to the grammar that they learn. she did a really great job

I was in charge of the last part, the production stage one of the most important parts of the class, well, I must say that it was not easy to develop this part since I started this part I had a problem especially and this was that there was a child doing a tantrum, well the activity was that the children were going to go to the front to ask his partner about the image of the food that he had an example :  is it a banana? In this activity, I needed to make couples and there were only three children to whom I appreciate the collaboration of Federico who volunteered to be a couple of a child, When I was doing the monitoring part, the boy continued to have a tantrum and this made me more and more stressed because I did not know what to do, it's my first time teaching children and I never had someone to make a tantrum ,so I talked to him before he went to the front and the boy was still upset for some reason and he started telling bad things to his partner, when it was the turn of this couple to pass was very nervous when he stood up to do the activity I thought he was going to do it but he did not sit down and said he would not do it and kept whispering meaningless words, so I decided to put serious face and try to make him do the activity but it did not work guys, so I ended up being the couple of the girl then everything went on normally.

then I made the wrap up and everyone participated, even the boy with the tantrum, was to touch the image first and those who failed I had to ask them a question with the grammar of the class and they had to answer, in this activity the boy participated and what I did was to give him words of appreciation every time he did things well, words like you're doing well, see  you can do it, congratulations etc.

Why do I focus on telling you this story of my experience? well, it is because this had never happened to us and I know that as this can happen to someone else and I want them to know what happened so that they have an idea of what to do or what not to do in these very uncomfortable situations but it happens, guys!

What would you change about this class?
-probably give the clearest instructions I think this was a big problem.
- to have ignored the boy with the tantrum, now you know it if someone throws a tantrum just ignore it.

Things to improve.
-leave the nerves behind
-do not panic if something goes wrong and try to overcome it.

if you got here thank you for reading this blog!

  1. Hi Astrid!
Let me tell you that it is a pleasure to read your blog, so I want to say thank you for what you have shared us about the class that you developed with your team. First, I want to tell you that developing grammar class is a very nice challenge that we have as beginning teachers, but it is not difficult since we simply have to try to give the best of ourselves in front of the children, and we should enjoy what we do. Unfortunately I could not be in your class, but I can tell with what you have shared they did a very good job; in spite of the small problem that you had with a child, so I want to share with you a link about what to do with a child who does tantrum https://www.rasmussen.edu/degrees/education/blog/dealing-with-tantrums-in-the-classroom/ ; let me tell you congratulations for your work.

  2. Hi, Astrid!
First, I want to tell you that I would have liked to observe your class because I read about your blog and the class was developed in a very appropriate way and that is why, I want to congratulate you, you did a goob job, unfortunately the misunderstanding that happened with the child and it is normal for you to act as that way because nobody had ever done that before and I think that any of us would not have known what to do, maybe it was not the most appropriate way, but both you and all of us have now learned what to do in a case like that so animus Astrid , you did a good job and you learned from your mistakes and it is the most important thing!

ALSO, I really like the warm up that daniel did because was new!! I totally agree with when you said that you felt nervous because it is the first time that we are teaching to kids! But the most important is the experience that we acquired in this opportunity👏.
My advice could be that dont get angry when someone do not want to pass in front to do something!
