for us as students, being a teacher seems simple, but it stops to look simple until it's your turn to be in their shoes and you start to be a teacher. and believe me be in the shoes of a teacher is not simple, we all have great expectations of our future performance as teachers, we create perfect planning, material, and decoration but the truth is that nothing ever comes out perfect, there are always unforeseen, mistakes and as a teacher you must learn to handle it.
Let's start with my experience I was with mixed emotions I did not know whether to be happy for the new experience that was presented to me or to be nervous about the fact that it was going to be my first time in life that I was going to teach children, I'm not going to lie I was skeptical about teaching children, I was wondering if I was going to be a good teacher, so I thought it was a good idea to mentalize myself that it was going to be a success or a failure, I was ready for both options .to be my first time teaching children was not bad and although there were some situations my classmates and I knew how to handle the situation.
at the beginning when I started with the review of the vocabulary of the last class the children looked a little confused because apparently they did not know the meaning of the words when this happened I got a little nervous because I knew that then it was my duty to teach them and that was going to take me longer than expected but I did it because it was necessary that they knew the meaning of the words to carry out the warm-up activity .
the warm-up activity was bingo was a very fun activity and the children were very entertained trying to complete it, they did it fast and that was good because the time was running. the next stage to develop was the pre-during had to introduce the new vocabulary that was in the paragraph if I did not do my job well by teaching them the new words later we were going to have problems to develop the ¨During¨ activities. and this is where the problems started, the first was that the light went out and this made it complicated for the children to see the vocabulary when they were taking notes, so I had to transfer the vocabulary to the blackboard with bigger letters so that the children could take notes and that took me more time than it should.
the class went well not as we had planned but these things happen. they are situations that we can not control and we must be calm before these situations, nothing ever comes out perfect and from the experiences and mistakes, we learn. I really enjoyed teaching the children and this helps me grow as a professional. in this situation, our biggest challenge was the time for future classes this will not happen again and we will do a better job. thank you to those who attended the classes for their observations we will take them into account.
Hi Astrid!
ResponderEliminarAs you said be in front of children for first time teaching a class is difficult, because you get nervous and you do not know how to do the things to they understand well, you get frustrated but I think is just in the first time, because in the next we will better than now.
So i saw that you are a good teacher, you explanation were very clear and you made that students were participating in the class; i liked the materials that you had and also your voice was nice. Maybe in the next class you have to be careful with the time because is something that in this class was missing with you. So im imperssionated because reading class is quickly and wiht you no, you missed time. Congratulations you madre a good job.
I want to congratulate you Astrid, it is really important to recognize the mistakes, it requires guts to admit that maybe we did something that it did not result as we planned, but this is what we are here just learn from this experience, do not feel sorry for yourself that maybe you could do it better or that the things were not in your side. I think you begin to feel the weight of the word “Teacher” but I want you to stick something in your mind, it was your first time, the first experience teaching children and as you said being in front is not the same as being sat, but do not get sad neither upset for performance because you did it great despite it was the first time, you handle the difficult situation of making students to learn new vocabulary, and this parts is essential for them because from this depends the well development of the other stages, do not worry for the things you did not or did it. Remember learn as much as you can from the chance of being in front performing the awesome role of a teacher, I know you will do it better next time.
